Dead Cold Homeless Person
So it’s all over the news today that some homeless person died after being left on the street, and that they probably died from the cold. It has been pretty cold lately, admittedly, but I love the spin the media’s putting on this whole thing.. it’s like “SHOCK! HORROR! Homeless person dies after being left in the cold!”
Delve a little deeper and the story goes something like this.. Friend of homeless person (also homeless) calls 911 cos his friend isn’t 100%. Paramedics come. Paramedics try to see what’s going on. Surly homeless person tells them to leave him alone. So they do. Hours later, he’s dead.
The media goes on a witchhunt for the paramedics citing public outrage as the driver. Meanwhile the paramedic organisation are all on about how they attended but were shunned etc. BZZZZT RIDICULOUS! People die every day. People are born every day. Sometimes life ain’t the greatest. But the amount of media coverage this whole thing was given is just silly. If the paramedics kicked the bum, set his blankets on fire, then told his buddies to enjoy the warmth - sure - let’s get outraged. But to me, this situation seems more like “one of those things”. The bum wasn’t sun bathing on the sidewalk, he was fully clothed and wrapped up in blankets. Did the cold kill him? Hmm maybe.. or maybe it was a contributing factor and exacerbated an existing condition (pneumonia? tuberculosis? who knows?)
Meh.. what’s my point? *shrugs* dunno.. just more ranting cos that’s the mood I’m in :-p

Grilled Cheese
Now I need a bit of help here.. because back home, we have “cheese on toast”.. but here in North America Land you have “grilled cheese”. And apparently grilled cheese sandwiches are the only valid use for Kraft Singles - they’re pretty much disgusting any other way? This is what I’ve been told anyway..
Rewind to last week - I come home for lunch and Brian’s made me my first ever “proper” grilled cheese sandwich. And it’s good! The other day I decide I can’t be arsed making a full on grilled cheese, but I don’t mind sticking a Kraft Single on a slice of toast and chucking it under the grill.. and that’s where the strangeness starts..
Now I know that the individual cheese slices are wrapped in plastic, and that you should remove the plastic before attempting to use the slices. It seems that even with the plastic removed though, there’s still some kind of film surrounding the cheese. You watch it under the grill and the cheese puffs up like an envelope or something. First time I did it, it even browned a bit, along one edge. WHAT GIVES? Is the processed cheese guck wrapped in some kind of edible wrapper as well as the plastic outer wrap?
Please - fill me in.. cos it’s concerning me!

Weekend Roundup
After a brief absense, it’s the return of the fantastic Weekend Roundup blog entry! YAY!
Friday: Went to the pub after work with colleagues but the click that was there a couple of weeks previously didn’t quite seem to be there.. Had a few drinks, chatted to a few other people that turned up later on, then headed home. Met Antoine, went for a bite to eat, then hit the movies to see Kiss Kiss Bang Bang which was pretty good (like 8 or 9 out of 10). Came home, vegged, chilled, Brian came over when he got off work and we watched the rest of The Upside Of Anger which was a bit more average (5 or 6 out of 10 maybe?)
Saturday: Weird day. I was moody on and off, and butting heads with Brian on and off. One minute we’re all good, the next minute we’re winding each other up to the max. Pepsi Max. Went to Lonsdale, met up with Josh, had lunch. Back downtown, hung out for a bit, went to see Aeon Flux which was pretty good too. I’d give it an 8. There was a whole bunch of bad press online because they hadn’t made any pre-release previews available, but ignore that - if you’re in to some easy entertainment and like the whole futuristic/sci-fi thing, go check it out.
Back to mine, we watched Weeds (I love that show!) and The Apprentice (2 firings? again?!).. s’about it I think.. Hmm.. thinking about it, did we watch The Upside Of Anger on Saturday? or Friday? Meh.. whatever..
Sunday: Total chill day. Got up, vegged out, did fuck all. Did a bit of cleaning and tidying, but not as much as I’d have liked.. James swung by for a bit and stank of grease (having spent the past 8 hours flipping burgers). Chatted a bit, watched some TV, he went home, I did a bit of work, sorted out my billing, then hit the sack. Weekend kinda flew by, but all in all it wasn’t too shabby.
