Happy Birthday To You
..because it’s your birthday today
..because sending a card seemed weird
..because a text or a call would have been even more random and/or weird
..because I know you’ll read this (although I didn’t actually post this as early as I’d have liked, otherwise you would have seen it last night and it would have been more timely)
..because, in spite of everything, and however it may seem, I do still care. Nuff said. Happy Birthday!

Podcast 65: The Wednesday Morning One
Better late than never I always say.. and this podcast is about 36 hours late. I’d go with “good things come to those who wait” but c’mon - who am I kidding?! ;-)

Weekend Roundup
Bit of a while since we’ve had one of these eh? And I actually started this post ages ago then got sidetracked..
Friday: Went out with a bunch of people from work and hit the pub.. hold up - I’ve already told you this (see below).. moving swiftly on..
Saturday: Vegged.. sorted out xmas card list stuff.. bought xmas cards (ugh!).. saw The Fountain - not bad, nice visuals, kinda weak on storyline and substance.. Went to Tony’s party, definitely a mixed crowd - family, friends, co-workers, the whole shebang! Came home and hung out with Shawn for a bit then called it a night.
Sunday: Vegged some more.. saw Fast Food Nation - not bad, not great, mostly just average, seemed a bit like a film that wasn’t too sure of its own identity. One minute it’s trying to be a semi comedic parody of the fast food industry, the next you’re seeing the inside of a slaughter house in graphic detail. Came home, did laundry, half watched Hostel on the movie channel while I pissed around online, and here I am - pretty much ready to hit the sack.
Highlight Of The Weekend: I’d have to say drinking with the Brits on Friday night. And having the conversation with the Canadian chick that led me to the epiphany revelation of the weekend: I’ve always thought that if I could figure out what I want to do (like job-wise), then I could sort out the where. But maybe that’s wrong. Maybe the where should come first - pick a place, then figure out the work stuff? The jury’s still out, but it’s an idea..

The Week In Review
I was sitting in the pub earlier and I had a little laugh to myself - I realised that it was the third night this week I’d been there (in the same place). Now before Jared jumps in and calls me an alcoholic, I’ll explain..
Tuesday: Drinks were necessary. The mood was sombre - it’s not every day you have to comfort a co-worker in tears and find out that layoffs are looming. I hit the pub with Simon and Allan after work and we discussed the state of affairs. 3 beers later, things don’t feel quite as bad. I probably didn’t need the third one, but whatever - twist my arm. A slice of pizza on the way home and I was sorted.
Tangent: As I write this, I see another commonality between the 3 nights.. points if you spot it.
Wednesday: Up at the crack of dawn to pick Shawn up from the airport. He’s back from Australia and staying at mine for a bit. Had to laugh at the people getting off the Honolulu flight in shorts and flip-flops when the temperature outside was a couple of degrees off zero and there’s still a ton of snow everywhere. I met Charlotte after work, we hit the pub, and shared a pizza. They do an awesome barbeque chicken pizza at the pub that shall not be named, for fear of being mobbed by adoring blog and podcast fans. Beer count: A respectable 2. Buzz: No.
Thursday: Also known as Black Thursday. They laid off 37 people at work, with 14 of those in technology (my department). I wasn’t one of them but I’m friends with some of the people who were let go and it kinda sucks. It’s fair to say that there probably wasn’t a whole lot of work done on Thursday either. We had a few meetings where we were told what’s going on and why, what happens next etc. A bunch of us went out for lunch, a few people had beer, I had a vodka or two.
Friday: Original plan was a few drinks at Unwined with Linda, Barb and a few other people. However, when I got there, they were nowhere to be found. Stuck around a bit, phoned, still no joy, so it was back to the Tuesday/Wednesday pub to meet up with most of my team from work, and Charlotte and some of her friends. Drinking ensued. As did a barbeque chicken pizza (shared). And a few more beers. My team mates drifted off, more of Charlotte’s friends turned up, and a good time was had by all. It’s funny how some English people just look English too, eh? Nicola’s from oop north and as soon as she walked in, I knew she was a Brit. Funny!
So there we are.. that’s more or less how my week went. “Entertainment Thursday” proved more entertaining than most. No doubt there’ll be more change over the coming weeks, but two weeks tomorrow I’ll be going home for Christmas - the time’ll fly by then I’m off to Jolly Old England for a well earned and much needed break. Pip pip! Tally ho!
